What OSHA Training Do My Workers Need?

It depends on the hazards and tasks, not on a single course. Forklift operators need an evaluation every three years, respirator users need annual training, and workers exposed to chemicals need hazard communication. OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 are voluntary awareness courses, and they do not replace this task-specific training.

Training Questions

Is OSHA 10 required by law?

Not by federal OSHA. OSHA says the Outreach program is voluntary and does not meet the training requirements of any standard. Some states, cities and contracts do require it, so check your project and state.

What training does every workplace need?

It depends on your hazards, not your headcount. Many workplaces end up needing hazard communication and fire extinguisher training, plus PPE training if gear is used. Tick your tasks above to build a list.

Who can provide the training?

Many standards require a competent or qualified person rather than a specific company, and it can be your own employee who has the knowledge. Keep records of who was trained, on what, when and by whom.
